Dr. Rachel Hawran is a Rockland County, NY native and attended The University at Buffalo where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. Dr. Hawran then attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry where she earned her Doctorate of Optometry. During that time, she was the trustee for the American Optometric Student Association. Her responsibilities included organizing events and informing her peers of the latest trends in the Optometric world.
Dr. Hawran has been with Ridgefield Family Eye Care since the beginning of her career as a doctor. She was first an intern and then associate at our office before joining as a partner in 2010. She is also a 10+ year member of the American Optometric Association and Contact Lens sections of the AOA, and the Connecticut Association of Optometry.
Dr. Hawran enjoys the challenges of unique contact lens fits, especially with patients that have discontinued or struggled with contact lenses in the past. She specializes in Corneal Refractive Therapy, keratoconus, multifocal lenses and post-surgical contact lens fits. She has a strong interest in treating patients with glaucoma, chronic dry eye disease and ocular allergies. She lectures around Connecticut speaking to other optometrists about diagnosing and treating dry eyes.
Other interests include vision therapy, LASIK and cataract surgery co-management, and the detection and monitoring of diseases of the eye that are related to systemic causes including diabetes, hypertension, rheumatoid arthritis, auto-immune diseases and skin disorders.
Dr. Hawran currently resides in Ridgefield, CT with her husband and three children. She is excited to commit her time to helping her patients see better. In her free time, she enjoys traveling to other cities, reading and DIY home renovations.
